ABOUT YCL

YCL was created to tackle the two main threats against Youth's future: high systemic unemployment and the climate crisis.

Even though more than half of the world’s population is below 30, youth worldwide disproportionately face the highest rates of unemployment and underemployment. Currently, youth are three times more likely to be unemployed than adults, while they are positioned to shoulder the greatest burden — inheriting the ever expanding list of effects from the climate crisis. On the other side, organizations are becoming increasingly aware of the climate crisis, but those at the forefront are struggling to hire the young talent that will bring the fresh perspectives and resources needed to boost their climate projects.

Therefore, YCL was created to bridge this gap and support youth to find jobs and opportunities aligned with their purpose, and organizations to hire young talents who are willing to dedicate their lives to finding solutions to the climate crisis. Our comprehensive approach equips young leaders through immersive training and professional field placements within the climate economy. Accelerating capacities while facilitating connections between climate practitioners, experts, and leaders around the world. YCL is tackling youth unemployment while increasing the number of skilled climate professionals capable of solving one of humanity’s most pressing challenges.

YCL was born global from the start. Officially launched in January 2018, our website was ready in February, we opened applications for our first learning journey in March, and by May we had received more than 500 applications from 95 countries. To date we have trained more than 200 young people from 20 countries and reached millions through our social channels -- more than 1 million people in the first semester of 2019 alone. Our team is spread out over 5 countries, often engaging in global events such as UN Climate Conferences (COPs), C40 World Mayors Summit, the UN General Assembly, and the Paris Peace Forum. We believe that we have the expertise, skills, networks and passion needed to take our work to the next level, and we are kickstarting the implementation of an ambitious scaling plan. Are you in?

PURPOSE STATEMENT

YCL AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

We are tacking these three main SDGs below:

  • SDG 4

    Quality Education

We develop innovative learning journeys, showing different ways to teach a complex topic such as climate change to a broader audience while promoting life-long learning.we expose our program participants to real-life challenges and equip them with the tools and skillsets needed to navigate new realities, raising their awareness while helping them "walk the talk".

  • SDG 8

    Good Jobs and Economic growth

We tackle youth unemployment in an innovative way by building bridges between young talents and organizations from different sectors. By doing so, we also increase the number of skilled professionals working as a network to solve one of this century’s most pressing challenges.

  • SDG 13

    Climate Action

Our network act together as climate leaders to foster climate action in the YCL Hubs, innovation spaces that act as platforms to coordinate, facilitate and multiply climate projects and activities locally.
