A once in a lifetime opportunity for you to take action and start your career in the field of climate change.
YCL believes that the best way to understand a complex problem like climate change is to experience its real implications in different contexts. On our international immersion you will learn about climate change in theory, understand it in practice and work on hands-on projects with other young people.

Multicultural Learning Environment
One of the most important skills for those wanting to start their careers in the field of climate change is being able to work in multicultural teams. Work and live with people from all over the world to get out of your comfort zone while exploring a different environment.
We will also ensure that you meet locals and take part on cultural
exchanges, promoting active learning throughout
the whole expedition.
Participants will join the program to learn more about climate change, but also to get professional experience in the field. Therefore, you will have the opportunity of working with local organizations on concrete challenges. If you prefer, you can also choose to develop your own project or research, having individual assistance tailored to your needs.
You can choose between 2 treks (See More)
Before departure, we will share a comprehensive list of readings and other resources about climate change and sustainable cities. During the
immersion, you will attend lectures about climate science, international cooperation, climate finance, among other topics. We will also leverage
our partnership with leading academic institutions, such as Columbia University, as well as with local universities and research
organizations to enrich your learning experience.
Visits and Cultural Activities
The immersion's day-to-day will consist of several learning expeditions to universities, companies, UN agencies, local organizations, NGOs, among others. The program will offer a series of touristic trips and cultural experiences (some of which will be already included in the fee) too. Our goal is to create a cultural exchange which promotes active
learning throughout the whole expedition.
Life and Career Mentorship:
The program includes individual and collective coaching to help you to discover more about yourself and how to put your knowledge in service of others. At the same time, you will work with facilitators to set up your life and career goals, leaving the immersion with a clear action plan. The YCL team will also connect you with key organizations and contacts, following up your professional development over time.
Participants can choose between 2 Treks:
Participants who choose this trek will work part-time on a group project assigned by a partner organization, having the chance of experiencing real-life challenges that organizations face while implementing climate change projects.
Participants who choose this trek will bring their own project or research and develop it with the support of the YCL team, their colleagues and local experts. With our guidance, they will be invited to learn more about themselves during the process.
CITIES AND CLIMATE CHANGE
As it is known, climate change poses serious implications for cities across the globe. With an increasing population transitioning into urban areas, and the growing demand for resources and infrastructure, cities everywhere are being challenged to present new strategies for sustainable development and resilience to safeguard their future. Yet, these challenges also create an opportunity to imagine and implement innovative solutions for urban needs. Transportation, food habits, waste management, water security, energy use, mobility, environmental rehabilitation, housing and industry, amongst other topics, will all be affected by climate change. The way we reshape those activities, as well, may become important tools for climate mitigation worldwide.
We invite you to join this life-changing journey and reflect on some of the most pressing challenges we face this century while learning more about yourself in the process.
THE JOURNEY ON THE MAP
After concluding their journey, participants can join an exclusive network of YCL alumni, a community of practice with members from different countries and diverse experiences working on climate change. The network also includes the YCL team, mentors and partner organizations, who share opportunities and knowledge with other members. Additionally, YCL alumni will be empowered to promote the program in their countries and lead YCL Hubs, acting as multipliers facilitating educational activities for other young people. Lasting connections with like-minded people from different backgrounds amplifies the learning experience of YCL Fellows, as well as their impact as a group.
AND YCL DELEGATIONS
Members of the YCL Network can apply to optional Field Placement assignments with our partner organizations, in which participants will have the opportunity to increase their work experience on climate change and use the skills acquired during our programs. Participants are supposed to stay up to 3 months with their host organizations, and we plan to offer this service all year long. There are several options of organizations and thematic areas, and we work hard to ensure a good fit for our members. Other opportunities available to YCL Fellows are attending global conferences, such as COP 24, in Poland, to which we brought a Delegation of 11 young people in 2018.

BE A DONOR
In order to improve our programs and initiatives, we need to make investments in human resources, communications and curriculum development. We are thus looking for funding to cover those administrative costs, thereby reducing the final fee for participants.
