YCL brought a Delegation of young leaders to join a series of events in New York City alongside the 74th session of the UN General Assembly. The traditional annual gathering hosted by the UN was complemented by a special Climate Action Summit called together by UN Secretary-General António Guterres to continue the pressure on governments, the private sector, and civil society to achieve the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. The city of New York, the UN and the Climate Group also teamed up to offer more than 150 events open to the public from September 23-19, 2019. Special attention, by UN leadership, was given to global youth for the critical role we take in driving action. Thus our Delegation engaged young climate leaders and YCL partners, many outside the “climate bubble,” in these high-level conversations. Meet the YCL Delegates.
Summary of YCL Delegation's Agenda
The YCL Delegation interacted with leaders from around the world and across political spectrums. Indigenous Amazon leaders engaged young climate leaders and YCL partners, many outside the “climate bubble,” in these high-level conversations. The main goal was, and remains, that we will now apply this new knowledge by carrying out tangible actions long after the Summit is over. For that, they will have support from the YCL Network and from the new connections made during the hectic week. See the detailed agenda in our Concept Note.
