THE JOURNEY

A once in a lifetime opportunity for you to take action and start your career in the field of climate change.

YCL believes that the best way to understand a complex problem like climate change is to experience its real implications in different contexts. On our international immersion you will learn about climate change in theory, understand it in practice and work on hands-on projects with other young people.

Multicultural Learning

One of the most important skills for those wanting to start their careers in the field of climate change is being able to work in multicultural teams. Work and live with people from all over the world to get out of your comfort zone while exploring a different environment.

We will also ensure that you meet locals and take part on cultural

exchanges, promoting active learning throughout

the whole expedition.

Professional Development

Participants will join the program to learn more about climate change, but also to get professional experience in the field. Therefore, you will have the opportunity of working with local organizations on concrete challenges. If you prefer, you can also choose to develop your own project or research, having individual assistance tailored to your needs.

You can choose between 2 treks (See More
> Intrapreneur

> Entrepreneur/Researcher

Academic Curriculum

Before departure, we will share a comprehensive list of readings and other resources about climate change and sustainable cities. During the

immersion, you will attend lectures about climate science, international cooperation, climate finance, among other topics. We will also leverage

our partnership with leading academic institutions, such as Columbia University, as well as with local universities and research

organizations to enrich your learning experience.

Visits and Cultural Activities

The immersion's day-to-day will consist of several learning expeditions to universities, companies, UN agencies, local organizations, NGOs, among others. The program will offer a series of touristic trips and cultural experiences (some of which will be already included in the fee) too. Our goal is to create a cultural exchange which promotes active

learning throughout the whole expedition.

Life and Career Mentorship:

The program includes individual and collective coaching to help you to discover more about yourself and how to put your knowledge in service of others. At the same time, you will work with facilitators to set up your life and career goals, leaving the immersion with a clear action plan. The YCL team will also connect you with key organizations and contacts, following up your professional development over time.

Participants can choose between 2 Treks:

Intrapreneur

Participants who choose this trek will work part-time on a group project assigned by a partner organization, having the chance of experiencing real-life challenges that organizations face while implementing climate change projects.

Entrepreneur/Researcher

Participants who choose this trek will bring their own project or research and develop it with the support of the YCL team, their colleagues and local experts. With our guidance, they will be invited to learn more about themselves during the process.

As a Professional Development partner:

Field Placements:
Opportunity for organizations (nonprofits, companies, startups, international organizations, etc.) that are willing to receive YCL Fellows (ideally two or more) to work for up to 3 months on a climate change related project. In 2019, this should happen between September-December. Host organizations are expected to co-finance costs associated with Field Placements. Excluding optional remuneration for participants, a three-month placement, which includes travel to and from the site and basic living expenses, is estimated to cost USD $6,000. Costs may vary depending upon location. Co-financing agreements may involve partners covering in-country costs (food expenses and accommodation), while participants cover health insurance, evacuation services, and round-trip travel.

Employment opportunities:
Do you want to hire a passionate, skilled and innovative employee for a project or job related to climate change? Forward your vacancy announcement to us and we will send a tailored list with recommended candidates from our network of YCL participants and alumni!

BE A DONOR

In order to improve our programs and initiatives, we need to make investments in human resources, communications and curriculum development. We are thus looking for funding to cover those administrative costs, thereby reducing the final fee for participants.
